Large item courier service
Large item delivery for one bulky or heavy item
Some things are too big, too heavy or too awkward for a parcel network — and far too small to justify a removals firm. OctoFetch collects one bulky item from one address and delivers it to another on a scheduled UK route. You see your price and available collection & delivery dates before you book, and eligible items are covered in transit. The standard service is driver-only: one driver collects and delivers your item, so suitable help with loading and unloading must be available where needed.
- Your quote from two postcodes
- One large item is a normal booking, not an exception
- Live delivery dates, chosen by you
- Cover in transit for eligible items, mainland UK coverage

What a large item courier does differently
Parcel carriers work to strict size and weight limits, and anything long, unboxed or heavy falls outside them. Removals companies price around a vehicle and a crew for the day. The job most people actually have sits between the two: one large thing that has to get from A to B, safely and without paying for capacity nobody needs.
Your item travels on a scheduled route alongside other deliveries heading the same way. That shared capacity is why moving a single bulky item long distance can be affordable, and why we can quote a price for the job rather than an hourly rate. Where a job genuinely needs a dedicated vehicle, that option is priced separately and clearly at the quote stage.
Everything is arranged online. No sales call, no survey, no waiting for a price by email — two postcodes and the item details are enough to see the number and the available dates.
Who books large item delivery
The common thread is size, not category: something bulky needs to move, and no ordinary courier will take it.
Buyers of oversized single items
Gym equipment, garden furniture, a workbench or a set of shop fittings bought from a seller who cannot ship it. You do not need van hire or a favour from a friend — you need one item collected and delivered.
People whose parcel courier said no
Over length, over weight, unboxed, or an awkward shape that a conveyor cannot handle. Those are the everyday jobs on our routes rather than the exceptions we turn away.
Small businesses and trades
Moving stock, display units, tools or equipment between sites, suppliers and customers without keeping a van on the road. If you regularly need delivery for customers, you can list your business with us and offer it at the point of sale.
Households moving a few big things
Items left behind after a move, something bulky going to or from a family member, or a single heavy piece too large for the car. If the item is a household piece such as a bed or wardrobe, see furniture delivery, and for a sofa or corner group there is more detail on sofa delivery — same service, detail written for those items.
Large items we transport
If it fits in a low-loader van, can be handled safely and is not on our restricted list, it is usually a job for us. Pick the closest match to see a price.

What we cannot transport
We are upfront about limits, because a refused collection wastes your day. We do not carry pianos or safes, we do not dismantle or assemble on site, we do not remove or dispose of existing items, and we cannot take anything on our restricted list. Very heavy single pieces may need a specific vehicle, so give accurate weights and dimensions at the quote stage. Full detail is in our acceptable use policy.
What decides the price of a large item delivery
Three factors move the price. Knowing them means you can influence what you pay.
Distance between the two addresses
Priced on real road mileage between the collection and delivery postcodes, not a straight line on a map. A 40-mile move and a 300-mile move are not the same job.
Size and weight of the item
How much room it takes on the van and what is needed to handle it safely. Our quote form pre-fills typical dimensions and weights for common items, and you can enter your own.
Access at both ends
Stairs, upper floors, long carries and parking restrictions all change the work involved. Declaring them up front is what keeps the price fixed on the day.
Optional extras — delivery into the home, delivery to a room of your choice, packaging disposal and protective packing — are added during the quote and shown in the breakdown before payment. Quotes are calculated live, so the figure already accounts for your route, your item and your access. If a material detail changes before collection, tell us and we will re-quote rather than surprise you.
How booking a large item courier works
From quote to doorstep, so nothing between paying and receiving is a surprise.
- 1
Two postcodes
The collection postcode and the delivery postcode. That is what determines the route, so it is the first thing we ask for.
- 2
Describe the item
Pick the closest match from our catalogue of common bulky items, or enter your own dimensions and weight.
- 3
See your quote
A full breakdown, including any access or in-home options you choose. Your quote is based on the item, postcodes, access and booking details you provide.
- 4
Pick a real date
Live availability from the next scheduled routes for your collection area — you choose the day.
- 5
We collect and deliver
Our driver collects from the sending address and brings the item to you, with confirmation and contact details throughout.
Once you have paid
You get a booking reference and a confirmation email with everything we hold: both addresses, the item, the date and the price breakdown. Keep the link — it is where you check status, request a date change or add details you did not have at the time. Lost it? Resend your booking link. Need to move or cancel? The cancellations policy sets out timings, and refunds explains what happens if something goes wrong at our end.
Areas we cover for bulky item delivery
We cover mainland England, Wales and Scotland. Collections and deliveries run on scheduled routes rather than on demand, which is precisely why a long-distance single-item move can be economical — a Manchester to London treadmill travels with other items making the same trip.
Availability therefore differs by area and by week. Instead of publishing a coverage map that goes out of date, we show live dates for your specific collection postcode as soon as you enter it. If a route is not running, you know in seconds rather than after a phone call.
Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands and offshore addresses are handled case by case — get in touch before booking.
Courier, removals firm, man and van, van hire or parcel carrier?
Five services get confused with one another, and picking the wrong one is what turns a simple job into an expensive week. This is the honest version of where each fits for one bulky item.
| Option | Best for | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Large item courier (OctoFetch) | One or a few large, bulky or heavy items moving between two addresses. | Quote online before you commit, dates from live route availability, driver-only door-to-door as standard with in-home options priced at the quote stage. |
| Removals company | A whole property moving at once. | Priced around vehicle and crew time for the day, which is far more capacity than one item needs. |
| Man and van | Short local hops where you can be present and flexible. | Arrangements are often informal, so the price, the cover and the accountability if something goes wrong vary considerably. |
| Self-drive van hire | Short distances when you have help, time and somewhere to park. | Hire, fuel, insurance excess and your own day all add up, and you carry the item and the risk yourself — including the loading. |
| Parcel carrier | Boxed goods inside standard size and weight limits. | Oversized, unboxed or heavy items generally fall outside what they accept at all. |
The things people check before handing over something big
Straight answers to the concerns that come up most when the item is large, heavy or hard to replace.
What happens if it is damaged?
Eligible items carry cover while they are in transit, with a written claims route rather than a doorstep conversation: report a damage, loss or theft concern as soon as reasonably possible and we investigate. Conditions apply — pre-existing damage, owner-packed or restricted items and inaccurate booking details can reduce or remove cover — so the acceptable use policy is worth reading before you pay.
How do you know it will fit on the van?
That is what the dimensions and weight in the quote are for. Give real measurements rather than estimates and the right vehicle is allocated to the route. If an item is outside what we can carry, we would rather tell you at the quote stage than at the kerb.
Who loads a heavy item?
Someone needs to be at the collection address to hand the item over and help our driver load it, and someone at the delivery address to receive it. We do not dismantle or assemble on site, so anything that travels better broken down should be broken down before collection day.
How do I know what is happening on the day?
Every booking has a reference and a link that shows the current status, the addresses and the item we hold. Date changes and extra details go through the same link, so there is a record instead of a phone call nobody wrote down. Mislaid it? Resend your booking link.
Do you really cover my part of the country?
We run scheduled routes across mainland England, Wales and Scotland, and both postcodes are checked live — if a route cannot serve you, you see that in seconds instead of after a phone call. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands and offshore addresses are handled case by case.
Who am I actually dealing with?
OctoFetch is a Preston-registered business with a phone number and an email address, operating through The Unity Network of vetted independent couriers working to shared standards. Every booking has a reference, a confirmation and a link you can return to.
Why customers choose OctoFetch for bulky items
What tends to matter most when you are comparing ways to move one large thing.
The price is fixed before you pay
Distance, item size and access are all priced during the quote. Nothing is renegotiated at the kerb, which is the most common complaint about informal arrangements.
Built for single items
Your item shares a scheduled route with other deliveries heading the same way, so you pay for the space it takes rather than a van standing idle.
You choose the date up front
Available dates come from live route availability for your collection postcode, so the day you pick is a day we can genuinely do.
Cover while your item is with us
Eligible items carry cover in transit with a defined claims process set out in our acceptable use policy. Conditions apply, and we would rather you read them before booking than after.

Five things worth doing before you book
- Measure the item, and the route into the building. Length, width, height and weight — plus doorway widths, the turn at the top of the stairs and any low ceiling. Access is the most common reason a delivery fails, and it is entirely preventable.
- Agree a collection window in writing. A two-hour window, not “sometime Saturday”. Someone must be there to hand the item over and help load it.
- Break the item down if it can be. We do not dismantle or assemble on site, and anything that separates safely travels better and takes less space on the van.
- Protect corners, glass and moving parts. Blankets, cardboard and tape on the vulnerable edges make a real difference on a shared route. If you would rather we did it, add protective packing during the quote — owner-packed items can affect what cover applies.
- Check parking at both ends. Permit zones, controlled parking and narrow streets affect how close the van can get, and therefore the carry.
