What furniture collection and delivery with OctoFetch actually means
We are a dedicated furniture and bulky item courier, not a removals company and not a parcel network. A parcel carrier will not take a three-seater sofa. A removals firm will quote you for a day of van and team time you do not need. Between those two sits the job most people actually have: one or two large things that need to get from one address to another.
To keep the standard service straightforward and good value, OctoFetch operates a driver-only model. One driver collects and delivers your item, so suitable help with loading at collection and unloading at delivery must be available where needed. It is a bulky-item collection and delivery service, not a removals service.
Your item travels on a scheduled route alongside other deliveries heading in the same direction. That shared capacity is why a single-item move is affordable, and why we can quote for the item rather than by the hour. Where a job genuinely needs a dedicated vehicle, that option is priced separately and clearly at the quote stage.
Everything is arranged online. There is no sales call and no site survey — enter your collection and delivery details to see your quote.
Buying from a private seller or a marketplace listing? Our Facebook Marketplace delivery guide walks through how a collection-only purchase gets from the seller to your door.
Who this service is for
Almost every booking we handle starts the same way: something bulky has been bought or given, and there is no way to move it.
Marketplace purchases
Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Gumtree, Shpock and Vinted Home listings are overwhelmingly “collection only” because the seller has no van. You do not need to hire one, borrow a friend, or walk away from the bargain. Read the marketplace delivery guide for what to check with a private seller before you book.
Collection-only retail and clearance
Ex-display, clearance and warehouse stock is often sold on the condition that you take it away yourself. We collect from trade counters, showrooms and warehouses during their opening hours, so you are not committing to a weekend of van hire for a single wardrobe.
Charity shops and reuse centres
Charity shops and reuse centres hold excellent solid furniture, and almost never deliver. Browse the seller directory to see shops, charities and reuse centres we already collect from — contact the seller, then book the move. If you have already paid for something in store, our charity shop delivery page covers how that collection is arranged.
Family, friends and house moves in stages
A dining table from your parents, a desk from a friend who has upgraded, or the last three bulky things that would not fit in the removal van. A single-item courier is the sensible answer to a job too small for a removals firm.
Sellers who want to offer delivery
If you sell furniture and keep losing buyers who cannot collect, you can list your shop with us and offer delivery at the point of sale where routes are available.
Furniture we transport
If it fits in a low-loader van and is not on our restricted list, it is usually a job for us. Pick the closest match to see a price for it — sofas have their own page, because they are the item most often refused for access rather than size.
Sofas & seating
Two and three seaters, corner sofas, sofa beds, recliners and footstools. Our sofa page covers measuring, doorway access and what to do before collection day.

Single through super king mattresses, bed frames, divan bases and headboards. Our mattress page covers protection, dismantled frames and access.

Appliances, garden furniture, gym equipment, bikes and awkward one-offs. Our large item page covers the bulky and awkward end of what we carry.

What we cannot take
We are honest about limits, because a refused collection wastes your day. We do not carry pianos, safes, items that need dismantling on site, or anything on our restricted list. Very heavy single pieces — solid ottoman beds and large stone-topped tables, for example — may need a specific vehicle, so give accurate weights at the quote stage. Full detail is in our acceptable use policy. Beds and mattresses have their own guidance on mattress delivery, and if the thing you are moving is bulky or awkward rather than conventional furniture, start with large item delivery.
How online pricing works
Three things move the price of a furniture delivery. Knowing them means you can influence what you pay.
Distance between the two addresses
Priced on real road mileage between the collection and delivery postcodes, not a straight line on a map. A 40-mile move and a 300-mile move are not the same job.
The size and weight of the item
How much room it takes on the van, and what is needed to handle it safely. Our quote form pre-fills typical dimensions and weights for common furniture, so you are not guessing.
Access at both ends
Stairs, upper floors, long carries and parking restrictions all change the work involved, and the standard service is driver-only, so suitable help with loading and unloading must be available where needed. Declaring access accurately up front is what keeps your quote right.
Optional extras — delivery into the home, delivery to a room of your choice, packaging disposal, protective packing — are added during the quote and shown in the breakdown before payment. Your quote is based on the item, the two postcodes, the dimensions and access, and the other booking details you supply. Where material booking details differ from what was supplied, our current Terms and service rules continue to apply, so tell us as soon as something changes and we will re-quote.
Route-based coverage, checked by postcode
We cover mainland England, Wales and Scotland. Collections and deliveries run on scheduled routes rather than on demand, which is exactly why a long-distance single-item move can be economical — a Manchester to London wardrobe travels with other items making the same trip.
The practical consequence is that availability differs by area and by week. Instead of publishing a coverage map that goes out of date, we show you live dates for your specific collection postcode as soon as you enter it. If a route is not running, you will know immediately rather than after a phone call.
Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands and offshore addresses are handled case by case — get in touch before booking.
Furniture courier, removals firm, man and van or parcel carrier?
Four different services get confused with one another, and picking the wrong one is what turns a simple job into an expensive week. This is the honest version of where each fits.
| Option | Best for | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture courier (OctoFetch) | One or a few large items moving between two addresses. | Quote online before you commit, dates from live route availability, driver-only door-to-door as standard with in-home options priced at the quote stage. |
| Removals company | A whole house or flat moving at once. | Priced around vehicle and team time for the day, which is more capacity than a single sofa needs. |
| Man and van | Short local hops where you can be present and flexible. | Arrangements are often informal, so the price, the cover and the accountability if something goes wrong vary considerably. |
| Parcel carrier | Boxed goods within standard size and weight limits. | Will not accept most furniture, and unboxed bulky items generally fall outside what they carry at all. |
The things people worry about before booking
Straight answers to the concerns that come up most when you are handing a large item to a courier you have not used before.
Will my item get damaged?
Eligible items carry cover while they are in transit, and there is a written claims route rather than a doorstep conversation: report a damage, loss or theft concern as soon as reasonably possible and we investigate. Conditions apply — pre-existing damage, restricted items and inaccurate booking details can reduce or remove cover — so the acceptable use policy is worth reading before you pay, not after.
How does the seller know what is happening?
You agree the collection window with the seller, and your confirmation carries a booking reference you can pass straight to them. Someone needs to be at the collection address to hand the item over, so the written agreement between you and the seller is the part that makes collection day uneventful.
Is a collection-only purchase actually safe to commit to?
Get the price and the available dates before you pay the seller. That order matters: you then know the total cost of owning the item, not just the listing price. The marketplace delivery guide covers what to check with a private seller first.
Who is doing the collection and delivery?
One driver handles the whole job, which is what keeps a single-item move good value. Suitable help with loading at the collection address and unloading at the delivery address must be available where needed. If you would rather the item was brought inside, Delivery into Home and Room of Choice are priced during the quote.
Who am I actually dealing with?
OctoFetch is a Preston-registered business with a phone number and an email address, operating through The Unity Network of vetted independent couriers working to shared standards. Every booking has a reference, a confirmation and a link you can return to.
Why customers choose OctoFetch
What tends to matter most when you are comparing ways to move one large item.
You see the price before you pay
Distance, item size and access are all priced in during the quote, and the breakdown is shown before payment. Your quote is based on the booking details you supply.
Built for one item, not a whole house
Your furniture shares a scheduled route with other deliveries heading the same way. You pay for the space your item takes, not for a van standing idle.
You choose the date up front
Available dates come from live route availability for your collection postcode, so the day you pick is a day we can genuinely do.
A straightforward driver-only service
One driver collects and delivers your item, so suitable help with loading and unloading must be available where needed. That is what keeps a single large item affordable to move.
A real business you can contact
Phone, email and a Preston-registered address. Every booking has a reference and a confirmation you can come back to.
Part of The Unity Network
Our routes are operated through a network of vetted independent couriers working to shared standards, which is what makes long-distance coverage on scheduled routes possible.
What happens after you book
From quote to doorstep, so there are no unknowns between paying and receiving.

The seller's postcode and yours. That is what determines the route, so it is the first thing we ask for.

- 3
See your quote
A full breakdown, including any access or in-home options you choose, shown before you pay.

Live availability from the next scheduled routes for your collection area — you choose the day.
- 5
We collect and deliver
One driver collects from the seller and brings it to you, so suitable help with loading and unloading must be available where needed. You get confirmation and contact details throughout.
Once you have paid
You get a booking reference and a confirmation email with everything we hold: both addresses, the item, the date and the price breakdown. Keep the link — it is where you check status, request a date change, or add details you did not have at the time. Lost it? Resend your booking link. Need to move or cancel the job? The cancellations policy sets out timings, and refunds explains what happens if something goes wrong at our end.
Four things worth doing before you book
- Measure the item and the route into your home. Doorway width, the turn at the top of the stairs, and any low ceiling. This is the most common reason a delivery fails, and it is entirely preventable.
- Agree a collection window with the seller in writing. A two-hour window, not “sometime Saturday”. Someone must be there to hand the item over and provide suitable help with loading where needed.
- Ask whether the item is dismantled. Bed frames, wardrobes and large desks travel much more safely flat, and we do not dismantle on site.
- Check parking and help at both ends. Permit zones, controlled parking and narrow terraces affect how close the van can get, and therefore the carry. The standard service is driver-only, so arrange suitable help with unloading at the delivery address where needed.
