Buying a Used Sofa in Birmingham? Plan Delivery Before You Pay

Arranging furniture delivery in Birmingham is easier when you check transport while you are still choosing the sofa. A low asking price is only part of the decision. You also need to know whether it will fit, whether the seller can release it on an available date, and what the complete purchase will cost.

Whether you find a sofa in Moseley, a dining set in Erdington or furniture in a local charity shop, start with the actual collection postcode and your delivery postcode. OctoFetch uses those details, your item information and access requirements to show a quote and any suitable scheduled dates.

Get a quote now to check the journey before committing to the purchase.

Compare the complete cost of the sofa

Two similar listings can have very different totals once transport is included. The cheaper sofa may be further away, much larger or waiting upstairs with difficult access. Another may cost more to buy but be ready for collection from an accessible ground-floor room.

Get the information for each genuine option before deciding:

    CheckAsk the seller for
Purchase priceThe agreed amount and exactly what is included
Item sizeOverall width, depth and height, including fixed arms and feet
Separate piecesDimensions of each corner-sofa section and any footstool
AccessFloor level, steps, doorway restrictions and practical loading access
AvailabilityThe latest collection date and realistic handover availability

Then get a transport quote for the actual item and journey. Do not assume every sofa fits one price category, or that an urgent seller deadline can be met by a scheduled route.

Measure the journey through both properties

A sofa can fit your living room and still be unsuitable for the route into it. Measure the seller’s exit route as well as your entrance, hallway, internal doors and any stairs or lift involved.

For a corner sofa, ask whether the sections separate and whether any part remains especially long or heavy. A sofa bed or powered recliner can need a different handling plan from a lightweight two-seater. Declare what you are buying accurately.

Ask the seller to arrange any necessary dismantling before collection. Removing legs or separating sections is not something to assume the driver will do on arrival. Our sofa collection and delivery information explains the service in more detail.

Buying from a Birmingham charity furniture shop

Private listings are not the only option. Birmingham Hospice lists a Cotteridge Furniture Plus shop in its official shop directory. Check current stock directly with the shop rather than assuming that a particular sofa is available.

Ask about the shop’s own delivery options first. If you arrange an independent collection, confirm that the shop permits it, what receipt or reference is needed, and how long the purchase can be held. OctoFetch is independent of Birmingham Hospice; this is a shopping reference, not a partnership claim.

For any shop purchase, check that the collection point is the shop itself. Furniture may be held elsewhere, and a shop’s postal address is not automatically the correct loading address.

Agree help and preparation before booking

OctoFetch’s standard service is driver-only. Suitable help with loading at collection and unloading at delivery must be available where required. Ask the seller explicitly who can help; being present to open the door is not the same as being able to assist with a heavy sofa.

The sofa must also be ready and suitably protected in line with your booking. Check the packing and cover options before paying for transport. Do not assume the driver provides packing, furniture assembly or unrestricted carrying into any room.

Disclose floors, stairs, long carries and parking restrictions at both addresses. The quote depends on accurate information; material differences can affect the price or whether the job can proceed.

Check both collection and delivery dates

A collection-only seller may want the sofa gone before the weekend. That deadline needs to match an available route, not simply the day you would prefer.

Review collection and delivery dates separately. They may be different days. A route date also does not guarantee an exact appointment time, so discuss restricted handover windows before booking.

Can OctoFetch collect one sofa in Birmingham?

An eligible single sofa can be suitable for the service when the actual collection and delivery postcodes, item and access fit an available route. Enter the details to check rather than assuming every journey is covered.

Can the sofa be delivered outside Birmingham?

Check both postcodes. A purchase does not need to stay within one city, but an inter-city journey still depends on the routes and dates available for that booking.

Will the driver take my old sofa away?

Do not include disposal or removal of an old sofa in a purchase-delivery booking unless a separate service has been explicitly agreed. This guide concerns getting the sofa you bought to its booked destination.

Check the delivery before you buy

Get the seller’s postcode, the sofa measurements and clear access information. Use the furniture delivery guide if you need more detail, then compare the complete cost and dates while the item is still available.
